قصة بسيطة: جُحَا وَاِبنُه وَالحِمَار
Arabic folktale: Joha, his son, and the donkey (English translation available)
مُقَدِّمَة
This is a brief introduction to Joha's character and this story, it might be a little bit more difficult to read so if you want you can skip to the story, an English translation is also available at the end.
هَذِهِ قِصَّةٌ ثَانِيَةٌ مِنْ نَوَادِرِ جُحَا.
وجُحَا شَخْصِيَّةٌ مَشْهُورَةٌ مِنَ التُّرَاثِ العَرَبِيِّ لَهَا قِصَصٌ طَرِيفَة.
وقَدْ نَشَرْتُ مِنْهَا قِصَّةَ مسمارُ جحا.
وَمِنْهَا هَذهِ القِصَّة التي تَشْرَحُ مَقُولَةً عَرَبِيَّةً مَعْرُوفَة:
وَهَذِهِ الْمَقُولَةُ هِيَ: (رِضَا النَّاسِ غَايَةٌ لَا تُدْرَكْ)
وَمَعْنَاهَا أَنَّ مِنَ الْمُسْتَحِيلِ إِرْضَاءُ جَمِيعِ النَّاس.
جُحَا وَاِبنُهُ والحِمَار
كَانَ يَا مَا كَان، رَجُلٌ اِسْمُهُ جُحَا.
أَرَادَ يَومًا أَنْ يُسَافِرَ إِلَى مَدِينَةٍ قَرِيبَةٍ مَعَ اِبْنِه.
فَذَهَبَ إِلَى السُّوقِ، وَاِشْتَرَى حِمَارًا.
رَكِبَ جُحَا عَلَى الحِمَارِ مَعَ ابْنِهِ، وَبَدآ رِحْلَتَهُمْا.
وَفِي طَرِيقِهِمَا، مَرَّا على قَريَة.
وَعِنْدَمَا دَخَلَاهَا، سَمِعَا النَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ:
"اُنْظُرُوا إِلَى قَسْوَةِ هَذَا الأَبِ وَابْنِهِ، لَا يَرْحَمَانِ الحِمَارَ المِسْكِينَ، وَيَرْكَبَانِ عَلَيْهِ مَعًا!"
فَنَزَلَ جُحَا، وَتَرَكَ اِبْنَهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الحِمَارِ، وَسَارَ عَلَى قَدَمَيْه.
ثُمَّ مَرَّا عَلَى قَرْيَةٍ ثَانِيَةٍ.
وَعِندَمَا دَخَلَاهَا، سَمِعَا النَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ:
"اُنظُرُوا إِلَى قَسوَةِ هَذَا الابنِ العَاقِّ! يَرْتَاحُ وَحْدَهُ عَلَى الحِمَارِ، وَيَدَعُ أَبَاهُ الكَبِيرَ المِسْكِينَ يَمْشِي عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ!"
فَنَزَلَ الاِبنُ، وَرَكِبَ جُحَا عَلَى الحِمَارِ، وَسَارَ اِبْنُهُ عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ.
ثُمَّ مَرَّا عَلَى قَرْيَةٍ ثَالِثَةٍ.
وَعِنْدَمَا دَخَلَاهَا، سَمِعَا النَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ:
"اُنظُرُوا إِلَى قَسْوَةِ هَذَا الأَب، يَرتَاحُ وَحدَهُ عَلَى الحِمَارِ، وَيَترُكُ اِبنَهُ الصَّغِيرَ الضَّعِيفَ يَمْشِي عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ!"
فَنَزَلَ جُحَا، وَسَارَ مَعَ اِبنِهِ عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ، وَالحِمَارُ يَمْشِي بِجَانِبِهِمَا.
حَتَّى وَصَلَا إِلَى المَدِينَةِ.
وَعِنْدَمَا دَخَلَاهَا، سَمِعَا النَّاسَ يَضْحَكُونَ، وَيَقُولُونَ:
"اُنظُرُوا إِلَى هَذَينِ الأَحمَقَينِ! يَسِيرَانِ عَلَى أَقدَامِهِمَا فِي هَذَا الحَرِّ، والحِمَارَ بِجَانِبِهِمَا يَمْشِي مُرْتَاحًا!"
فَلَمَّا وَصَلَا إِلَى السُّوقِ، بَاعَ جُحَا الحِمَار.

حِمار: Donkey
بَدَآStarted (Dual Form):
the dual form is used here for most of the verbs so they may seem unfamiliar at first
قَسْوَة: Cruelty
العَاقّ: Undutiful to one's parents
بِجَانِبِهِمَا: Next to them, also in dual form
الأَحمَقَين (أحمَق): Fool
This is another story from Joha's folktales. He is a character from Arabic folklore known for his funny stories. I've previously published one of these stories titled: Joha’s Nail.
One of his famous stories is this one that embodies a well-known Arabic saying: Pleasing everyone is an unattainable goal
Joha, His Son, and the Donkey
Once upon a time, there was a man called Joha. One day, he decided to travel to a nearby town with his son. So, he went to the market and bought a donkey.
Joha and his son rode the donkey and began their journey. On their way, they passed through a village. When they entered, they heard people saying:
“Look at the cruelty of this father and his son! They have no mercy on this poor donkey, riding it together!”
Upon hearing this, Joha got off the donkey and walked on foot, leaving his son riding the donkey.
They passed another village. When they entered, they heard people saying:
“Look at this cruel and ungrateful son! Resting alone on the donkey while making his poor old father walk on foot!”
So, the son got off and walked on foot, while Joha rode the donkey.
They passed a third village. When they entered, they heard people saying:
“Look at the cruelty of this father! Resting alone on the donkey’s back while making his poor young son walk on foot!”
Joha got off the donkey and continued walking on foot with his son, letting the donkey walk beside them.
When they finally reached their destination, they entered the town and heard people laughing, saying:
“Look at these two fools! Walking on foot in this heat while the donkey walks rested beside them!”
After hearing this, Joha marched straight to the market and sold the donkey.
